Fibromyalgia Medical Terms and Definitions

Body dysmorphic disorder

A psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive preoccupation with imagined defects in physical appearance.

Bone cyst, simple

A solitary fluid-filled cavity (cyst) in a bone, usually in the shaft of a long bone, especially the humerus, in a child. A simple bone cyst can cause pain in or near the bone.

Mohs surgery

A type of surgery that is used for the treatment of skin cancer, especially basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.

Curettage

Removal of tissue with a curette from the wall of a cavity or another surface. For example, curettage may be done to remove skin cancer.

Auditory integration training

An experimental procedure for reducing painful hypersensitivity to sound. It has proved beneficial for some people with autism and other neuropsychiatric disorders.

Asbestosis

A condition featuring scarring of the lungs caused by inhaled asbestos fibers. Asbestosis is irreversible.

Acupressure

The application of pressure on specific points on the body to control symptoms such as pain or nausea. Similar in concept to acupuncture but without needles.

Adenoma

A benign tumor that arises in or resembles glandular tissue. If an adenoma becomes cancerous, it is called an adenocarcinoma.
