Fibromyalgia Medical Terms and Definitions

Acupuncturist

A person skilled in the practice of acupuncture, who may or may not be credentialed by an accrediting body.

MRI, endorectal

An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) done from inside the rectum. To do such as MRI, a surface coil within an inflated latex balloon can be positioned in the rectum.

Craniology

The study of variations in size, shape, and proportion of the skull (cranium).

Endorphin

A hormonal compound that is made by the body in response to pain or extreme physical exertion. Endorphins are similar in structure and effect to opiate drugs.

A method of treatment that uses a monitor to measure patients' physiologic information of which they are normally unaware.

Phrenology

The study of variations in the size, shape, and proportion of the cranium.

Treatment, palliative

To palliate a disease is to treat it partially and insofar as possible, but not cure it completely. Palliation cloaks a disease. Also sometimes called symptomatic treatment.
