Hi everyone 🤗

I'm new here. I just wondered if anyone has any tips on how to manage fibro fatigue?

I'm really struggling at the minute just don't seem to have even the smallest amount of energy.

I've had so much time off work because of it and my GP has just told me it's part of fibromyalgia and there's not much I can do about it.

So any advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks

Hello @Jac1 , and welcome to the forum.

I, along with many others here, know what you are talking about. I have days when the fatigue is so bad that I literally cannot accomplish anything beyond feeding the dogs and lying on the couch. I have sometimes felt as though I were too fatigued even to be lying on the couch, if you know what I mean.

I wish so much that I could tell you something that would work for you to alleviate this, but the truth is that the only thing you can do is try different things to see if something will help. Having said that....I will tell you a few things I do that you can try, and others may chime in with suggestions as well.

I take L-carnitine and D-ribose every day, and that does seem to help my energy level somewhat, in that I don't seem to have as many days of completely debilitating fatigue.
I also find that what I eat makes a difference. One suggestion I have is to avoid alcohol and to stop eating sugar as completely as possible. This doesn't just mean not eating sweets, but also not eating condiments that have sugar in them as well. You have to read labels, because sugar hides in almost everything that comes in a package.

And eating enough protein and healthy fats is also very important.
Any amount of exercise that you can manage to do, even on the bad days, will potentially help as well, even if it is just a short walk.
And, of course, getting enough good sleep is imperative, although for most of us with fibromyalgia that is not easy. And I know I can sleep all night and still wake up totally exhausted.

You might be doing some or all of those things and you are still exhausted. I am trying to do all those things and am still fatigued almost every day. But whatever you can do to improve your overall health at the very least cannot hurt.

One of the most important thing I have learned is not to fight what is. I have learned to practice radical acceptance. Which doesn't mean giving up, but simply accepting the day as it comes. That's not easy. It takes a lot of practice. But the more I can simply accept what is in the moment, the less of my limited energy goes into feeling angry or frustrated about what I cannot do.

Hopefully others will join in and let you know what they do to help themselves to have more energy. We are all here to help and support each other.

This is great advice! I would also add make your tasks or goals for the day super simple. For example, for a walk sometime I tell myself I accomplished my goal of walking by going 4 houses down the street.

Taking mini rests throughout your day help. 5 minutes rest before going back to cooking etc.

And I would make sure all your nutrition is in order, especially iron.

Best of luck!
