hand check

Are you taking any kind of medication? I ask because there are some meds that have really weird side effects. Some meds can even make your hands shake all of a sudden, I know because I was taking a medication that did that to me. Have you ever gotten a MRI of your brain? Have you asked the neurologist to rule out Lyme disease and MS? A spinal tap wouldn't be a good idea... Btw... did the neurologist run a neurological test?

Well my next appointment with the hand dr is tuesday. But the guy who gave me my nerve conduction test and emg said my muscles are healthy and so are my nerves. He said he thinks anxiety might be causing my issues. But I don't buy that as the last few days I have been getting tension headaches, and I started work again this week and everyday after a 5 hr shift I have been fatigued. Today I feel a little achy in the bottom of my feet, nothing serious but like a dull ache and I feel a little itchy through out my body. I just really don't want it to be MS or ALS.

Uhm, well, it does sound to me like you are really stressed out! I'm not saying I think you have MS, but have you considered asking the neurologist to rule that out? Most of the time they ca do it by taking a sample of your spinal fluid. I'm sure that's not it, but by ruling that out I think you'd not be so stressed. I do get tension headaches when I'm worried about something, specially health related. Just try to rue that out, ask your doc.

Yea I can't afford to have a spinal tap done as I have no insurance and workers comp won't pay for that. It's weird that all my symptoms started with my right arm going numb and the hands tingling. Then it got tight and I couldn't use my arm to open anything or write. This is after I worked on unloading and packing out our truck at cvs. Then a week later it spread to the left arm. I know the one dr gave me anti-depressant medicine and the other gave me xanax for anxiety, so maybe a lot of this is in my head. Or maybe anxiety was causing me to feel itchy and have the tension headaches. I did wake up today with tingling in my right hand so that has to be either from carpel tunnel like the one dr said, or maybe thoracic outlet syndrome. But I think anxiety can supposedly cause one's hands to get tingling and so forth.

So I had some pain in my feet and shins today while walking around at times, but its worse right now as I try to sleep. Its not terribly painful but achy. My shins feel like burning sensations that is there but one in seconds. I also have twitches in my legs and my right foot. Is this all due to anxiety?

finally saw the hand specialist who went over my test and said all my symtpoms are from anxiety. Does this sound right?

From here it really sounds you have an anxiety issue. So sorry to hear they won't cover that, but I just mentioned that becuase I thought that'd bring you peace of mind (getting that test done) since I'm sure isn't MS. Actually mt hand went numb like that as well, but after a while it got better. It happens with the carpal tunnel syndrome sometimes, it happened to me. But I know how hard it is to be scared and fearing it could be something else, just take your meds (the anxiety ones), stress and tension can cause pain.

Thanks Trellum, ironically my Chiro started asking me about headaches and that led to several other questions and today he gave me a referral to a neuro that he likes. So, hopefully tomorrow I can get an appointment set up with the neurologist. I agree that my doctors have been totally unhelpful. I assume I must take part of the blame as maybe I'm not explaining things in a scientific light. Thank you for the support.

Well it sounds similar to some of the effects of dyspraxia. I thought for ages I had RA, carpal tunnel, or even maybe Duputryen's Contracture. Did the tests, doesn't seem to be any of those.

I have a lot of disorders, including mental disorders. Dyspraxia is a learning disability, in the same category as dyslexia. It causes executive dysfunction (this is kind of like the effects of fibro fog, but without the 'fog' and all the time, so bad memory, can't figure out when or how to do important things etc), difficulty handwriting, difficulty doing small motor movements, difficulty using 'proper' pen/pencil grip, strange gait or difficulty walking or running or swimming.

The symptom that really caught my attention is "arthritic tensing up of the hands" or other digits. My fingers tense up, the center of my palms and my wrists ache, same with the soles of my feet, and the more I try to 'push through it' the more it hurts.

If you think this is the case, the headaches could be from increased stress from worrying about it! The tingling could be your body going into and out of stages of numbness from the pain, or it could just be RLS showing up at the same time.

For some reason the joint pain isn't a commonly listed symptom, but I assure you it is one. Anyway pain can be a lot of things, but since Dyspraxia isn't usually considered I figured I'd mention it. Hope you work things out, mysterious symptoms are the worst.

Not your fault at all, it's their damn fault for being so useless. I feel your pain, the doctors I have been seeing lately have completely failed me and that is in no way the patient's fault, but the doctors. You don't need to be able to explain things in a ''scientific'' light, they should be able to understand and diagnose you when you tell them all the symptoms you are experiencing.

Glad to hear you will see a neuro soon, I think that's a wonderful idea and I hope you get answers so soon. Btw, how are your headaches like?

Ok, I must have been out of it when I wrote this because I meant dysgraphia! Sorry! The pain gets worse when stressed, usually starts in one area and then spreads out.

I agree that you shouldn't need to explain things perfectly to get the proper help. Almost every doctor I've had has not been helpful, and actually I've found that the more specifically I can explain things, the more resistance I receive. Don't blame yourself for other people's stubbornness. Hopefully your neurologist is helpful!

<<Glad to hear you will see a neuro soon, I think that's a wonderful idea and I hope you get answers so soon. Btw, how are your headaches like?>>

I am headed to a neurologist in about 3 weeks, soonest appointment. My headaches are pretty frequent mixed with migraines. I don't have pain in a specific area of my head or problems with my eyesight when I have a headache though. If I get a headache early in the day I take an Excedrin and that seems to help. If I think I might be getting a migraine I take an imitrex (prescription). I get about 3 or 4 headaches each week and one migraine a week, to me that is excessive.

Visit the site called "ABOUTBFS", there are thousands of people with benign twitching and tremors and some have Fibro. Not ONE of them has ever developed als. Most have Fibro, ME/CFS, thyroid issues, pinched nerves in cervical spine and some have no idea why they twitch. I've had these twitches 17 years! Yesterday I awoke and my little toe was having a dance party all by itself. I've seen fingers move the same way. It's a great website. BTW, als strikes 1-2 people per 100,000, and is more frequently seen in older males (55-70). There are a hundred other things that can cause your exact symptoms. Please don't hop aboard that fear-train...it sent me into a terrible depression that lasted over a year (when they first began). Before you go to a neuro, I would recommend visiting the site. Hugs!

The material I got about Fibro said the tingling along with this c. tunnel is a result of Fibro. Mostly it is a
a symptom that comes and goes. From what I understand many things seem to be "copy cats" of other
diseases. I had problems with tingling in my feet and legs, also have R phenonominum, sorry I can't remember
correct spelling, but my feel freeze in cold weather, also i have to hurry in the market in freezer sections especially,
both of these conditions as well as the clumsiness I have would indicate MS and some things mimic Lupus.
They are symptoms of Fibro. I have had neurological tests that had huge co-pays and not I ignore most things, unless something
falls off and it needs re-attached it likely is Fibro related.

Junebug, I like your spirit lol... We'd all do well to remember the various tricks Fibro can play on our bodies and minds. From numbness, feelings of weakness or shakiness, tingling, buzzing, twitching, brain fog, cramps, etc. -- there are (I believe) over 50 symptoms associated with FM, and it differs from person to person. Thanks for the chuckle! Until something falls off, it's probably Fibro.
