@Rainbow
I once asked a counsellor (pre diagnosis) if I had dementia, or schizophrenia or something. It didn't help that my then hubby picked on everything and I lived with "why haven't you", "why did you" etc. Well, I had no idea.
Anyway, she said to me "do you want to have dementia?". Hmm. I was not ticking the boxes.
Then I saw a program called You Can't Ask That, and it was on dementia. They had about eight or more people with dementia and asked heaps of questions . I saw such a likeness of what I faced, but one difference. Dementia gradually gets worse. Fibro switches on and off.
A teacher in about fourth form, around 16 year olds, told us to use lists and notes and to put full dates on everything, emphasising the year. I didn't know how helpful those habits would be decades later. I have always been a list person though, mum was to a fair degree also
Rainbow, have you thought of keeping the list attached to the calendar, or on the 'fridge? Or dual copy with the name of the other place on it. ?
I am lost when i don't make a list for the next day.
Hail my fellow List Person!
Thank you for the clever where-to-put-the-list suggestions.
My home is a small one-bedroom flat & I live in my bedroom, even when i'm not hosting any family members, as they tend to turn up
when least expected & sometimes with very little, if any, warning, so I find keeping to my own space all the time the simplest solution.
Plus, as a bonus, it keeps the heating etc costs down.
Truth be told I've always been more comfortable in reasonably small spaces.
So much so, I've always had a hankering to live in a mobile home on a cliff top over-looking the sea,
preferably on the East Yorkshire coast & specifically in the vicinity of Whitby, which is my Soul Home.
In fact, I've left instructions with my Nearest & Dearest that I am to be cremated & they are to take my ashes to Whitby Abbey
& surreptitiously scatter me 'The Great Escape' style within it's walls.
Though I dare say they'll forget or won't have time or won't bother but I'll make a point of haunting them if they don't.
MUST remember to tell them that last bit but I know I likely won't.
Sorry I wandered off there but I tend to do that - returning to the 'Forgetfulness' theme...
I have a small desk in the corner of my room (bedroom) from where I 'run my life' so to speak
& so I know where any paperwork I'm looking for is usually to be found, usually.
Though I have been known to find it in the kitchen - in the fridge to be precise.
Ok, that only happened once but one needs to remain alert for these ever-possible glitches in the fabric of One's Personal Universe
- I strongly suspect mine is a Moth-Eaten Patchwork Quilt.
Rainbow - Monday 6 January 2025.
ps I've done that to keep a grip on who I am & what timeline I'm on because post-Christmas is always even more of a blur than usual.
Usually.
