Face moisturizer that won't cause skin flare ups?

I have had fibromalgia for years and just in the last few years has it affected my skin. I get red bumps under my skin mostly on my face. They itch really bad most times but are also sore to the touch. It happens more when I have been stressed or in a lot of pain. The stress causes the pain so it all goes together. As I have gotten older the moisturizers, etc, all have chemicals for aging in them and they tend to stress my skin so it causes those break outs. I am curious if anyone has found something to help moisturize their face for dryness. I am ok with aging if there is nothing out there to help and not break me out. But the dryness of my skin I cannot deal with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

@NClady if my facial skin is stressed and irritated I tend to go for Aveeno (calm and restore ). I use the gel facial moisturizer but they do facial balms and creams as well as cleansers etc..
Their body lotions are very good on my sensitive skin too. Works well for me.
I'm careful as to what I use on my skin, particularly the face. May be worth looking at.

Have you had yourself checked to see if allergies may be a problem for you? I'm no expert in that field but I am wondering if its worth asking a pharmacist? My skin goes crazy on insect bites, causing itching and sore skin and anti histamines can help me with that.

@SBee , I also use Aveeno calm and restore. I also have the age renewal serum that I use very seldom. I have had a food allergy test done through my general physician. It didn't show that I was allergic to anything. But I know for a fact that garlic, jalapeños and gluten causes havic on my body when I eat them. There may be other things as well. I need to pay more attention I suppose. I honestly think my face flare ups are stress related and when my pain is high it does the same. I never thought of using anti histamines, that is great advice! I will ask if that is something that may be doable for me. I was hoping to maybe find a moisturizer that has more for the same or less amount. The Aveeno is such a small container and isn't on the cheap side. But I have used it for a few years and it seems to be the best I have found so far. Thank you so much for your suggestions and your time. I appreciate you!

Your're welcome @NClady. I confess I always wait for the aveeno to be on offer in price, then buy several at a time! I do use the serum too, best I have ever used, and definitely the kindest to my skin. Its almost cheaper in the long run for me, as if I fancy trying something new and it irritates my skin then I end up having to throw it away and waste that money. Hope you find a replacement.

Oh, just a thought, just make sure its not rosacea, a facial skin condition. ( but sounds probably stress related flare up)

@SBee I need to keep tract of the cream and see if I can ever get it at a cheaper price. I usually just purchase when I'm close to running out. I asked about rosacea a few years back and it was a negative but it wouldn't hurt to mention it again just to be safe. Thanks for bringing that up. And your are 100% right. It would be a waste of money. Great points. Thank you so much! God bless ♥️

@NClady I do have rosacea on my face, but just on the cheeks. I don't have itching though, and no soreness. A lot of things can trigger it, but sometimes I wake up with it for no reason. It usually goes away on its own, but if it needs help I have a prescription gel that's very helpful.

Just a thought - maybe get a dermatologist's opinion?

I suffer from frequent acne due to testosterone replacement therapy; the "invisible" beneath the skin type, sore to the touch, as you describe. I have used various products over the years in my daily face care regimen. Moisturizing is a must in addition to cleansers formulated for acne-prone skin and spot treatments to kill bacteria. I have found that my favorite is Neutrogena HydroBoost Water Gel moisturizer. It is very lightweight, non-greasy, contains hyaluronic acid, and a pea-sized or smaller amount goes a long way.

I also like that Neutrogena gel moisturizer. It's expensive by my standards, though. Probably not nearly as expensive as many others. sometimes it is on sale at Costco and that's when I buy it. The rest of the time I use a gel moisturizer that is very similar which I get at Trader Joe's, and which costs a lot less.

@sunkacola I just research the water gel and it is the exact same cost as the Aveeno I use. I can't wait to try it. With the different consistency it may last longer than the thicker cream I use now. Thank you for sharing your information.

@NClady @sunkacola It lasts me such a long time (months) because, like I said, I only have to use a 1/2-pea size amount at most. I love how thin it is, like it's not even there, but its action is very noticeable and effective. I pay about $14 at Walmart or close to that on Amazon, whichever is cheaper when I'm ready to restock.

I heard Trader Joes is coming to Florida near me. If I can get there, I'll have to see if I can try out what @sunkacola uses.

@NClady hope you love it as much as I do. I looked back and I had gotten it at a marked down price early in December at around $14, but I do see now in my Walmart app that it is 19.95. prices on everything are going up. It's going to be a rough year financially. But I digress. Please let us know how it works out for you.
