Day 27

Today I had a nice cheerful lady come to my door who claimed she was the advertising lady for a new business that was opening in our town. She claimed that they were randomly handing out coupons for free cleaning of one room and there new cleaning business would also include repairing sweepers.
Her job was to run my sweeper in one room and for this I was given a large bottle of dawn dish liquid as a gift. She claimed to have a limited time to hand out the coupons, but she would return in 10 minutes to run my sweeper for me.
I agreed only because she named two people in town that I knew and I thought helping them get started would be a nice offering on my part for something that was free.
Turned out of course not to be what I expected as she returned as promised with a tall well dressed young man who was planning on showing me how his Kirby sweeper worked on my carpet. The lady then stated he would do my cleaning. He then walked into my living area to talk with my mom without asking and got down on my floor near my mom and started asking lots of questions about my carpet and things which were none of his business.
Needless to say I did not allow any cleaning to be done, and kindly ask the young man to leave my house repeatedly. I said this was not what I wanted nor expected, and told him what the lady had said and it had nothing to do with seeing how his sweeper performed. He stalled a bit and finally texted his boss and then called him on his phone.
I told him I was lied too and it was like a scam, and the best thing they could do is to tell the truth, about wanted to show and sell Kirby sweepers. He told me to tell his boss what the lady had said and to come out to the truck and tell him. I said he can come to my door I am not walking out in the cold and snow to a strangers truck. Well they left without speaking to me. I was really mad and I think the young man was ashamed and mad that the lady had lied to me.
So in the end I was glad they left and I locked my door behind them and then called my neighbor to warn her. As I fixed supper for mom and me, I thought how dishonest people have become in trying to sell items. If they would have been truthful up front, but to say an outrageous lie and then expect me to let them continue and invade my home was quite another matter.
I found out they were from Buffalo, NY, and no new shop was to open in our town and it was a scam to sell a product that is expenive and heavy, and hard to push.
So tonight I am telling you this to get it off my chest and out of my brain so I can sleep tonight. I really wish we all could go back to the times when being honest was something people were proud to do and trusting people was easier and a true reward in its self.
Don't you agree?

1sweed, after reading your post I thought of how I used to be. I remember when I used to lie a lot to get people to do what I wanted, when karma hit me back eventually, but much harder.
Sometimes, I would steal money out of coke machines. Sooner or later I noticed I kept losing my money in the coke machines. The same with stealing money. I would steal money, and end up losing it.
Either way, payback comes back on everyone, at the perfect moments.

Thank you for your comment. I hope that this story helped you see that telling the truth works so much better and saves everyone involved time and money. If they would have told the truth I would have politely refused as I can not afford their sweepers. But telling me fibs was their downfall. I am glad your on the forum. I enjoy reading your posts. :)
