Fibromyalgia Medical Terms and Definitions

Xeroderma

Abnormally dry skin. Xeroderma can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin A, systemic illness (such as hypothyroidism or Sjogren's syndrome), overexposure to sunlight, and medication.

Wry neck

Medically called spasmodic torticollis, or torticollis. The most common of the focal dystonias.

Wart, venereal

The same as a genital wart, a wart that is confined primarily to the moist skin of the genitals.

Venereal wart

A wart that is confined primarily to the moist skin of the genitals.

Vascular headache

A group of headaches felt to involve abnormal sensitivity of the blood vessels (arteries) in the brain to various triggers which results in rapid changes in the artery size due to spasm (constriction)

Varicocele

Elongation and enlargement of veins within the network of veins (pampiniform plexus) that leave the testis to form the testicular vein.

Vaccination, polio

The vaccines available for vaccination against polio are OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) and IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine). OPV is still the preferred vaccine for most children.
