@Forgetmenot: I don't want to hijack the thread, but you got me thinking about a new one re: menopause

@sureimsore Don't worry about hijacking the thread. The experiment is on hold again, because the antibiotics are tearing up my stomach. The surgery is today, so I'm hoping that I can start the Vitamin D again once things have settled down somewhat. I'm interested in hearing the thoughts on menopause if y'all would like to continue that here, or elsewhere.

I started taking more vitamins and one is Vitamin D-3 & Vitamin K-2. Both are good for your bones and strength & skin. I had trouble taking Calcium, as it made my stomach hurt. My friend told me to use a high dose of Vit. D-3 so I started with 5000 iu. I take one of each daily. I also take one Vitamin C every morning, plus Lutein 20 mg for my eyes and CO-Q-10 50mg. It does seem to help with energy and can cause a bit of IBS for a few days until your body adjusts to the use of these vitamins. :)

Too late WP : ) but I started one Fibro and Menopause under General for when you are up to checking back in.

Hey WarriorPrinces, since eating bland helped I'm curious have you ever been checked for food sensitivities?

I'd use the 5,000, not the 2,000. Anytime someone walks past me with a virus, I take 50,000 iu for a few days. Never had a problem. (that's TEN 5,000 iu pills). I don't get sick much, anymore. I don't take 50,000 iu for more than 1-2 weeks, though. I've heard of doctors prescribing it, that way. I knew a woman who had sores all over her body from colitis. Her doctor told her to take 50,000 iu D3 a day, for 14 days. She didn't have any money and never got her prescription filled, so I gave her enough of my over-the-counter to take it. Her sores cleared up, like a miracle.

As far as I know, you can't really overdose with the D3. If you do, you'll probably notice the nausea and vomiting. You would need to take 50,000 iu every day for several months in order to get to that point. I know lots of people who take high doses of it, up to 50,000 iu, and have never overdosed, including myself.

So, if you want a good experiment, take 50,000 iu every day for 1-2 weeks, and then cut back to about 5,000 - 10,000 iu a day, which is what most folks that I know take.

I also suggest, for pain, a little MSM powder in whatever you drink, every day, about three capsules of fish oil a day, and a warm glass of Natural Calm magnesium supplement every night, along with a Malic Acid supplement. And epsom salt bath. Everyone in my house is now hooked on the Natural Calm, from my fourteen year old daughter (she mixes in sugar and ice to the lemon variety and drinks it like lemonaid) to my husband who is about to retire. It's indispensible to my seventeen year old daughter who has fibro and CFS. There are also forms of it with fruit flavors and stevia, but I like the original lemon fizzy version.

I just wanted to add that what I've noticed most, since using MSM and D3 on a regular basis, is that I just don't get sick very much, and when I do, i'm not very sick, and I"m not sick for very long.

good luck with the antibiotics!

LOL, actually, that made me think of Gary Null (health guru with his own line of nutrition)...
a few years ago he overdosed on Vitamin D3, 2,000,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day for a month, to be exact. It was in a power shake...his own brand! He wound up hospitalized, and sued his supplier.

Thank you for posting the above comment about the fact you can overdose on vitamins. Often times we think that vitamins are just natural products that help but can't hurt the body. However, I have heard of other serious health issues from over medicating on herbal and vitamin supplements. If you want more of a certain vitamin then eat more of the fruits and vegetables, that contain them naturally. Be safe in treating yourself with all over the counter medications and vitamins. :)

@1sweed - oh, for sure. Like most things, everything in moderation. And even though it's something good for you, when you are on any
types of meds it's best to check with your doctor, or these days you can try and check for interactions online. And while I love grapefruit,
I'm also careful of anything I take within hours of consuming it.

OK, that's my PSA for the day : )

And I like and respect alot of what Gary Null says, but even he can get it wrong sometimes. I'm always a little skeptical when someone
tells you how good something is, while trying to sell you their own line of product.

I'm blanking on the MSM powder, will have to check into that. Fatigue hasn't been quite as bad, but brain fog has been severe lately. Thankfully, I'm usually sitting at the computer, and can do a quick look up to complete my thoughts/sentences, ugh. I'm still not sure about the Vitamin D, so am only going to take 3 pills maximum a day for now, because I'm not sure if that's contributing to my headaches. It could be the prevalence of storms, which never helps. Dealing with a loved one's health issues right now, so mine are on the back burner, but thankfully, the yeast infection appears to be gone, and my GI stuff has calmed down somewhat since I finished the antibiotics.

Thanks for the info! My mother n law once asked me if i had my vitamin d levels checked and i didn't think anything of it because i live in CA so i get plenty of sun. I amso tired of relying on pain meds I'm willing to try anything different! I'm going to have my husband go out tomorrow and buy some supplements and try it out.

desi 13, A simple blood test will tell you your vitamin d levels but you have to ask for it. You could be taking to little to make much difference. I also live in lots of sunshine but had my levels checked after spending hours outside gardening and they were low. So many FMers are low on D. can make a difference in pain levels too.
