Hi everyone, hope you are well as you can be, can I ask has anyone had a sharp pain in there neck that hurts that bad I'm scared to move my head, even hurts to swallow.

It happened twice last night and once this morning, and Iwas only completing a very small movement, nothing too strenuous, it's making me miserable, has anyone got any advice.
My neck shoulders arms always hurt but this was like a massive electric shock that made me scream out in pain
Thanks on advance for any help

So sorry to hear you are experiencing this. I know how that feels. Most likely, you slept on it "wrong", or in some other way strained a muscle there, and it will get better on its own. But if you can get hold of some kind of balm to rub on it, that may help. Some suggestions are: Arnica cream or gel, "Tiger Balm", Icy-Hot, Ben-Gay, or a CBD rub. If you can go to a pharmasy, ask them what would work the best. Alternately you can just try to relax as much as possible.

If this continues, I recommend you see your doctor, because it could be a pinched nerve and might need treatment of some kind. If you have a chiropractor that you trust, that is another possibility.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I have tried my magnesium oil, I do have a cbd rub just got to find it, this forum is so good to ask or rant as no one else understands our aches and pains.

Thank you again and keep well

Have that too.
Nothing to worry about.
My swallowing feels strange too.
Nerves and muscles are in that area.
Try PEA a supplement from the health store for chronic pain. Give it two months to see if you get relief.

I find a heat pad (lavender) very helpful with neck pain & headaches, it relaxes the muscles. Muscle tension (in my humble opinion) is responsible for a lot of fibro pain, I also find yoga extremely helpful.

I had neck & shoulder sharp stabbing pain for years. Tried every stretch workout, physio, chiro, nothing would loosen those points of pain. Finally, my doctor recommended i try treading water. Stay close to the pool's edge, use legs kicks and gentle arm movement to stay afloat. The buoyancy helps ease muscle stretching.

My Fibro started with back spasms that lasted 6 months and made it difficult for me to breathe. 6 months of barely able to get in a full breath. It was hard. However I will say over time I discovered that with the prescription of a doctor I got some excellent physical therapy and was able to gradually work on every area that was giving me pain and literally systematically work through them, even as they continue to pop up. I also virtually eliminated added sugars to my diet as well as processed foods. It's taking years, but it seems like I am in this moment eliminating the use of pain medications finally. I wish you all the best, have hope. They told me this could not go away, but I feel like I have hope for that now.

@MrBrett , thank you for this post! I am always so happy to hear about someone having success with managing fibromyalgia, especially if they have found ways of cutting down on or even eliminating pain medication. Even though what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, it is always very inspiring to hear from someone who has worked so hard to learn what works for them, and is having success. It shows that there can be hope for all of us. I greatly appreciate that myself, and I am sure others here do as well.
Again, thank you for telling us about your success, and I hope that you will post more.

I had something similar. It was excruciating. Really, terrible pain. I could barely drive for about 10 months. It started very suddenly, even though I think the problem was probably building for months. I believe it was "tech neck" from looking down at my phone and laptop. What worked for me was about 4 massages within 2 months with focus on the neck/shoulders. I had a huge knot of muscles and nerves in the neck area and lots of tension in my shoulders and upper back. At the same time, I saw a Chiropractor who found that my 1st cervical vertebra was out. It is rather uncommon, or so I was told. After a couple of adjustments in that area, and the massages, stretching and some strengthening in the neck and shoulder area, it has resolved. This treatment took about 4-5 months. I stretch every day and have improved my posture when using my phone and laptop. I use a Chiropractor who uses only the activator method. They do not "crack" your neck or back. It is very gentle. I would recommend this method to anyone, especially with fibro. Traditional chiropractors leave me very sore from adjustments. With the activator method, I am NEVER sore. and I believe I am functioning pretty well due to chiropractic care. If you find a Chiro who purports to use the activator method, tell them that you want no traditional cracking no matter what. I have had two Chiropractors crack my back or neck without telling me and I end us worse that when I have started. If anyone is interested in the activator method, I see some Chiropractors in the Rocklin/Roseville area just outside Sacramento, Ca. I would be happy to share their info. Best of luck to you.

Hi lovely,I have these zaps regularly, its like being tasered! and its so painful..I saw my gp last year about it and she said its probably just a pinched nerve...and that was it. 🙄

Have you seen a neurologist? It is necessary to exclude pathology of the cervical spine. My neck shoots up sometimes, I have chronic tension on the left in the trapezius and neck muscles. I live in a region where ATACMS missiles are flying, so my airport is not working, and the nearest airport is 860 km away. (520 miles), which is 12 hours by car. I went back and forth twice in the summer, I held the steering wheel with my left hand. Since then, sometimes a muscle in my neck suddenly contracts, making the bones of my spine crack and snap. Tell me, have you taken a course in back, neck, and trapeze massage? Since I started swimming, my back muscles have been feeling good. In order not to strain my neck, I swim on my back or on my stomach with my face in the water. To stretch the neck muscles, you need to stand in the water so that your head is above the water. I also do myself a superficial and deep neck massage, there are clamps in the deep muscles, I conditionally press hard on it, I feel severe pain and nausea, half my head cramps, and after 7-15 seconds. The pain subsides and the muscle clamp significantly weakens. It seems that this is a myofascial syndrome, in order to stop it, a technique is used when you need to press on the trigger point to limit the supply of oxygen, this will stop the oxidation of ATP and stop the production of energy needed to contract muscle fibers. But this should not be done, if your muscle is strongly "bitten" and severe pain has spread over a small area, it hurts a lot to move the muscle at this moment, then you do not need to put pressure on it - it will only get worse. This is a severe spasm and adhesion of muscle fibers . Muscle fibers interlock mechanically, and then in such situations they cannot detach, return to their original position, they say this is due to the strong excitation of neurons in the muscle. It helps to rest for 3-5 days, and after that you can start working with the muscle with the help of massage, stretching.
