Hi all,

I made a PIP claim in June, the PIP line told me 10 days ago that because I had changed my address they hadn't actually sent it to the assessors. They said whilst I was on the phone, the case manager was going to send it across and I should get a phone call in 1-2 weeks with an assessment date - it has been 10 days and haven't heard anything yet which is fine.

I'm quite anxious about the assessment as my stepdad who has heart failure and is having to have ops to correct was denied it and was told that the assessors basically click buttons etc. It would help a lot especially if I was to recieve the mobility side as most days I'm unable to drive myself and my partner is having to use his car to take me places / out shopping etc.

Has anyone had an assessment for PIP for Fibro and can tell me their experience?

Hi @courtneypaigep1

I had a PIP assessment in September, but my health is a bit more complex as along with fibromyalgia,I also have inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis, and all three affect my mobility and physical abilities in varying ways.
I do know people get awarded pip for 'just ' fibromyalgia. What I will say is try to have a copy of your application in front of you to refer back to, I was told they look for consistency between your verbal answers on the assessment and your application.

Try to avoid saying ' sometimes my ability to walk is hard' and better to use ' 5 days a week I cannot walk more than a few metres ' and ' when I walk a few metres I need to rest for an hour ' things like that.

I cannot physically hold a driving wheel as my arthritis affects my hands and wrists worse,so I ( truthfully ) my husband has told t drive, and I cannot walk to the village bus stop for public transport.

I was massively anxious, but the assessor was actually nice. Tell the truth and dont sugar coat your lack of abilities. Take a look at HealthUnlocked, a UK based site. The forum part for fibromyalgia has many posts with questions about PIP assessments.

I wish you well. If I can help any further do ask. I will do my best to answer

You cannot just choose what pip you would like. If the doctor or the hospital physio have assessed you and you need it then you will get it. It sounds to me that your boyfriend wants to drive a new car. Please tell me that isn't the case

There was no need to be so rude. I know I cannot choose what PIP I would like, I am fully aware of how it works with numerous family members receiving it. FYI my boyfriend has just had a new company car so doesn't need a new car. No need to be so rude.

Hi!sorry to hear of your anxiety due to pip assessment.i’ve had numerous conversations with pip assessors some good some not so.don’t feel anxious about the call just write exactly how you feel and how it’s affecting you.they will be hearing intensely your phone manner and if you deviate from the answers you’ve gave them.don’t be happy with the assessors because they’ll think you’re fine.look up all the questions you will be asked and write it all down and try and memorise them which we know isn’t easy.s bee was absolutely right with what she told you but go into the assessment answering from your personal experience the sheer stress this has caused you.most assessors are really helpful.i hope this helps and take care xxxx

I'm applying for pip... and I've been doing so much research on how it all works... the assessment is point based most people don't get it because there not been clear in what they can and can't do.... so end up losing all there points... my advice is prep prep prep... there is a brilliant woman on YouTube called charile Anderson she really helps you answer there questions properly... don't ever answer what if questions it's only yes I can do and no I can not do!!!

I don’t mean to be rude but they write to your doctor and hospital consultants asking exactly what you’ve got and how it’s effecting you.they already have a clear picture of your disabilities they just want you to clarify exactly how your disabilities are effecting your daily living.just tell the truth and tell them the difficulties you face.good luck
