Hi i am new to this forum and only diagnosed 2024 after many years of suffering .Has anyone had experience of the best type of mattress to help with night time pain.

Good evening,
Regarding beds/mattresses: I have gone back and forth from firm to soft to medium mattresses, but my best solution came two years ago when I purchased a bed that mechanically moves into different positions for the head, torso, and legs.

What I discovered was that it wasn’t so much about the firmness of the mattress as it is the ability to gently move into different positions as one particular part of the body begins to hurt.

I have found that simply by shifting the weight off the part of my body that is hurting the most, I am able to get relief. Sometimes just moving a portion of the bed a few inches helps tremendously.

Since I’m also an insomniac, my body tends to stiffen at night because I’m not getting restful sleep, so changing positions allows different parts of my body to rest because I’m moving the pressure points around.

I also have a difficult time breathing, so one of the best features is being able to move the head of my bed up and down to provide better positions for breathing easily.

One extra feature that came with my bed are LED lights that shine from under my bed. They are managed by the same remote control as the rest of my bed. It’s wonderful for lighting my floor so that I don’t trip on something in my bedroom. For some of us, clumsiness sets in early and we have to be careful not to fall when we have to move around at night.

The best kind of mattress is the one that works the best for you. The thing is, everyone with fibromyalgia is different when it comes to what works for them and what does not, when it comes to medictions and exercise and everything else including mattresses. For some, it's a firm mattress and for others it's a soft one, so unfortunately no one can tell you what the best mattress is for you. You will have to experiment and find out.

....BUT..... we can tell you what works for each of us, and that at least gives you some ideas to try!

I have a fairly firm mattress, but the comfort of it is greatly enhanced for me by the 2" memory foam topper I put on top of it. I love my memory foam, and when it wears out I have decided that I will get a 3" topper to replace it. One great thing about these toppers is that they don't cost nearly what a new mattress costs, and so it's a lot easier to try it out to see if it helps your comfort.

The other thing I find is necessary is whatever helps me to relax at bedtime. For me, that is a combination of a muscle relaxant, and alternatively the use of medical cannabis.

I agree 100% with sunkacola.

Medical cannabis via tincture, CBD gummies, and magnesium citrate at bedtime are what helps me to sleep.
