Anyone got any tips. Following antibiotics 3 months ago i started getting different coloured loose stools...the for last 3 weeks i have almost constant diarreah and severe stomach pain up many nights. Then because of painkillers sometimes i get constipated but diareah always follows later the same day.

Its the severe abdominal pain thats so hard all the time not just after eating. My doctor is testing for bacterial infections candida but first test came back fine and she is going to redo.

I have always been able to eat what i want with no problems at all and if anything had to add fibrous foods because of medication casing me to get constipated if i didnt.

I have stopped eating much altogether as everything makes the symptoms go nuts for hours...just soup a bit of breakfast cereal a few nuts for protein.

Anyone else have IBS with this kind of problem daily?

Thanks if anyone can help.

Yes! I have had bowel problems since I was a kid and it is much worse now. I can't take meds because I severe reactions including constipation. I have always had problems either with constipation or diarrhea. Never knew which it would be. I did learn that eating certain foods would make me cramp, sweat, and give me diarreah. I also know that if I don't go for two days I am in trouble. I started having more bowel problems with my bowels this summer and this fall since the end of Sept they have quit working. I was up to 8 days without going but the longest has been 11. I am taking 4 softgels and two senocot per day right now and going for a colonoscopy in Feb. First available date! I know something is wrong. Unfortunately my doctor is older and doesn't really get me the right tests. I have to research, check and ask. My diet contains fibre, lots of veg and salads, a little fresh fruit, no or very little carbs, no sugar, protein and lean meat (mainly chicken because pork and sometimes beef give me diarreah), no milk products or very little (I use rice milk or coconut for smoothies), sweet pot or whole grain rice, no statch, and eggs. This is daily routine which very much helps and I lost weight too when I made the diet change. I hope this helps you. I would say you need to change meds and perhaps keep a log of what you eat and what happens on a daily basis.

Yes. My days start off with painful lower abdomin and 2 or 3 loose stools of varying degrees towards diarrhorea. Then in the afternoon I have painful constipation with painful gas. Then later in the evening I have a tiny hard poop. Everyday is the same. I am keeping a food journal with symptoms before and after eating and what BM's were like.

Thanks so much for answering over the festive season i really appreciate it....the diet tips are great Blueeyes...especially the rice milk etc as i know dairy has to be avoided. Do you means eggs are ok or a real no no?

I know bad gut bacteria likes to feast on protein and dairy.

You might want to research SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth). I've struggled with IBS for over 30 years. My rheumy thinks I also have Sibo. I've read that as many as 85% of people diagnosed with IBS also have Sibo. Good luck!

Thank you rholmes..to be honest i do think its to do with bacteria because it started when i was taking antibiotics.....and hasn't been right since. My doctor as tested for bacteria and yeast/candida but says there is nothing abnormal but i also have a nasty tasting coated tongue that whatever i do... rinse with salt water or with sodium bicarbonate, brush my tongue with salt water or toothpaste nothing makes it go ....just reduces it briefly.

I feel so yucky as i am super hygenic and have always taken care of myself my oral hygene eating healthy am slim etc.

Its affecting my self esteem... the fibro pain etc and now all these problems i dont want to people to be around me with stinky breath and bloated stomach keep running to the loo or needing hot water bottles to lay down all the time.

I feel sooooooooo worthless and unappealing as a person! It hurts so much body and mind . I am isolating myself as i can't bear to be seen as this person.

xx

I do eat eggs and I find they don't bother me. Eggs has always been a big part of my diet but I have heard that eggs can bother other people. I would eat a hard boiled egg at lunch or make egg salad (if you like that) but only once per week using a tbsp. of low fat mayo with a smidge of mustard on light rye bread and lettuce and have carrots or cucumber with it. I will also scramble up two eggs for lunch with cucumber on the side.

Don't isolate yourself Willow. I know how easy that is but you have to keep motivated. As I am still learning you need have the Fibro work with you and not let it take over even though it is not easy and I do have my days, many days, that I have to keep reminding myself of that.

My bloating and breath started two years ago and have gotten worse to the point where I now see a specialist for it and I was taking meds for it but then switched to natural pills with each meal full of enzymes. Their papaya pills. But once I start eating off track like right now with Christmas, I am in pain and very bloated. That is where the bad breath comes into play. It will put of an extra 4 lbs in a day because of it!

There are a couple of shakes I drink too if you want the recipes. Easy and they are good and they satisfy me, their good for you and not expensive or weird. I don't like to make or eat things that are weird or too far out of the box so to say or hard to find in the grocery store.

Thank you blueeyes.....what are the pills called and did the specialist recommend them or did you research yourself. I have been taking probiotics but no difference noticed.

I would like the smoothy/shake recipes.I am guessing maybe they are green veggies and fruit maybe natural yogurt too? I only say this as my son makes these when he visits and also had problems with digestion after antibiotics last year and he read that making the body more alkaline in the morning is the best start you can give it and he also got acid reflux like me.

I so wish i hadnt taken the antibiotics as it was a quick fix for the bad taste in my mouth from my doctor but just made it worse and all these new problems too.

I really really appreciate the advice and diet ideas that are the kind of food i would normally eat.

Do you get a nasty coated tongue that stays despite cleaning it regularly?

Happy New Year x

Hi Willow,

Sorry for getting back to you late. With not feeling good and family it has been hectic.

When I used to take meds I used to get dry mouth and would have water with me all of the time to drink when working and chew gum. My tongue would get white too. When I went off meds that all went away. But because my stomach and bowels are so much worse I find, especially now during the holidays because I am not eating my normal diet, I have a bad taste in my mouth and my stomach is very painful, bloated, and upset. But once the new year is over and my regular days are back, I can get back into the swing of my routine.

I used to take Domperidone with each meal prescribed by my doctor for my esophagus and stomach. But I switched to Papaya Enzymes with each meal as they are more natural and they seem to do the same trick. Their chewable and by Natural Factors and I got them at the Health store.

Two shakes I have -

1 cup of rice or almond or low fat or coconut milk, one scoop of whey protein (bought from Walmart), and my choice of fruit. I use strawberries. Great for breakfast or lunch.

The other one is a handful of Kale, 1 cup of coconut milk, 1 tbsp. of almond butter, 1 tbsp. or chia seeds, 1/2 banana, 4 froz or fresh strawberries. I am not a big kale person but I don't mind this and it is great for breakfast. You can use any fruit that you want. I do drink this at lunch sometimes but I find it doesn't fill you up as much. This recipe I got from the Dr. Oz show. I eat a cup of probiotic yog usually in the morning for a snack.

Have a great night! Sheri

Thanks for the recipes and tips i really appreciate all this help Hugs x

My IBS is kind of like Lili. No matter what I try, it has a life of its own. Because of my acid reflux disease, I am limited on the foods I eat.
I have found drinking Mirilax helps with the constipation. My nervous system brings on diarrhea. I, too, have a smoothie every morning. It has helped calm down the GERD. I put a handful of greens, shredded carrots, organic applesauce, canned pineapple, organic tart cherry juice and frozen blueberries/strawberries. Put it in my Ninja and have for breakfast with a Quest bar.

Medications, miralax, fiber....all of it does nothing for me!

I was so constipated once that I ended up in the ER. The ONLY thing that worked to get my IBS under control was quoting gluten, dairy, and sugar. I got off my medications for IBS and am hoping to get off of my GERD meds (which some doctors think causes more harm then good in the long run). I also am on a probiotic and am currently working on healing a 'leaky gut'.

My sister is on the other side of the IBS spectrum. She almost had to quit her job because of it and even had an accident on the way to work. She swears by acupuncture! It changed her life.

all your stories and things you do to ease symptoms helps give me guidance and things to try...thanks all you lovely people who bother to share.

I know my reply is late, but I have bad IBS. It started about a year ago, it wasn't so bad at first. In fact, I had no idea I had IBS. But the last few weeks have been horrible and tonight.. it's keeping me awake. Like the fibro isn't bad enough. When will catch a break?

Has anything helped Willow? My IBS is hit and miss but it is definitely irritated by certain foods and surprise, surprise. ..stress. Acidophilus I take faithfully each day, I take 3 different types and it may be an overkill but I could care less...it does help. Shakes are a lifesaver.
