and northern Europe with the opposite: water masses and flood damage... Everyone I know closely is OK, but quite a few are living close to areas of some devastation... Luckily the resources seem there to get the most important things done up again fairly quickly, but quite a lot of houses and lives have been lost.
I'm so glad that the people you are close to are alright, JayCS - you must all be feeling rocked to the core. Watching it all unfold in Germany last week, I was reminded of the fires here in 2017 - so many houses and businesses destroyed, livestock lost, and people killed. It would seem that the elements are equally brutal, whether fire or water is the core culprit. It takes such a long time to rebuild and restore - both in terms of the physical and the psychological - and of course some will never recover.
