Hey y’all,
As a long time, fibromyalgia, sufferer I’ve been on almost all the pain meds and drugs that they have to offer. Yesterday they put me on gabapentin. Does anyone have any idea of what the side effects for this is? The pharmacist told me sleepiness, but that never happens to me. I was just wondering if anybody had experience with it.

Common side effects of gabapentin include:

  • Feeling tired.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Fever.
  • Difficulty speaking.
  • Recurring infections.
  • Memory loss.
  • Weight gain.
  • Movement problems: coordination problems, being unsteady, tremors, jerky movements.
  • Eye problems: unusual eye movements, double vision.
bait that does not mean that you may get any of them

I was put on gabapentin when I was first diagnosed, and it did nothing for me at all. No reduction in pain and no side effects either.

If you want to know the side effects of any medication, it's easy to look that up online. Just type the name of the medication and "side effects" into your search engine and they will all come up.

Thank you! I will watch for those things. I am wondering if the gabapentin is what caused the extremely vivid dream that I had. It was so real! I woke up and I was sweaty, my heart rate and BP were throught the roof, and I couldn't form complete sentences. It was so bad my principal called 911. It makes sense since they called them just the other day for me and I ended up in the ER. Very strange 🙄

I have been on gabapentin on and off for 20 years. I just recently started up again at 300 mg three times a day.

I experience and I've always experienced zero side effects from gabapentin unless I am taking a high dose, which causes drowsiness in me.

Gabapentin is extremely effective for my neuropathy. In 20 years I have never found anything better, and I am very happy that it works for me at the lowest prescribed dosage.

A word of caution: be very careful when taking gabapentin with other medications that have sedative effects. Especially at higher doses. If you do take other medications or supplements that cause drowsiness and sedation, you must consult with your doctor about the safety of taking the medications together. Please heed this warning.

Super glad you're having no side effects and I suspect you won't have any if you haven't already. I hope that it works for you. 🤗

So I read about a study that if you eat cheese before bed it can cause vivid dreams/nightmares. I can’t remember where I read about it, but found it very interesting and from my own experience I’d say it has some correlation to my nightmares, so I no longer will eat cheese before bed.

Good evening to all. I have been suffering from very painful nerve psin in my left foot and at times it goes a bit up my leg. I have Restless Leg Syndrom as well so quite a party there some nights! My doc put me on gabapentin 300 mg 2x a day and 200 mg in mid day. I have to say it has done a good job taking the pain away until today...I just hope tomorrow is better. And yes the only side effect so far is the wild dreams at nite. But it is still better than this constant throb in my foot. Have a good nite everyone, god bless!!

@Blitzy For RLS, you might also consider applying magnesium oil to your legs at bedtime. I use the Ancient Minerals brand and find it effective. BTW, I also take gabapentin.

Ty so much JamieMarc I am venturing out today and going to try the magnesium tonite for sure. Have a good one!!

Have some side effects but they’re better than the severe burning pain on my right side. Guess you have to weigh out if the benefits outweigh the side effects for yourself- I do know that certain foods are a trigger for my pain attacks also- sugar and dairy being the worse. And boy was it hard to drop those, takes every ounce of discipline I possess! Good luck
