I was diagnosed with fibro about 4 years ago but I’ve had it since my mid forties I’m 57. I have a question. The pain is normally in my legs hips and hands. Has recently moved to my ribs and has now settled in both upper arms. I work a retail job and so lifting bending and walking all day. I am trying cymbalta have moved up to 60 mg. It has completely relieved a friend of
Mine from 95 percent of her pain with no side effects. I was already on Celexa for anxiety and just switched to cymbalta. I haven’t had any side effects. My osteoarthritis in my right knee and hip has entirely out hurting but not my fibro yet. This is my question. Almost all aeticles
Say that fibro is amplified pain response. That there is no inflammation or changes inside the muscle itself. Since the pain has settled in my upper arms. They are sore, ache , I can’t hardly get undressed aftwr
Work etc. but they also have snapping Ans popping. My husband can even hear them. If there is no I donation and no physical changes just pain amplification then why are they sound this. Like a swollen tendon snapping when I move my arm a certain way. I was ruled out any other autoimmune diseases by the rheumatologist. Thanks Shawn

That was supposed to say if there is no inflammation why are they popping and snapping. Thanks

The crepitus (snapping and popping) sound a lot more like a clue to arthritis than fibromyalgia, though the pain could be either. Since you already know you have arthritis in other parts of your body, it's not a stretch to surmise that it's now affecting your arms. I'd get an opinion from your physician.

Is the lifting you are doing a repetitive motion? That can make it worse for me.

Yes I lift and reach all day at work. Not really heavy stuff. Nothing over 15 pounds. It has gotten better since I wrote the post. It’s still sore to the touch but hasn’t been as much pain. I hope the cymbalta is working. I just finished second week on 60 mg. No side effects but dry mouth.

Keep an eye on the dry mouth, Sdfoxy! Stay hydrated and maybe try sugar-free gum or snacking on veggies over the day to increase saliva. I had real trouble with my teeth after Cymbalta for that reason - saliva is important for keeping plaque and tartar at bay!

Thanks for the tips. Thank goodness the dry mouth has all but gone away. :)

I do listen to the dry mouth and try to drink more (preferably a tasty soy drink in my case, which also helps keep my acidity at bay at night). But my dentist recommended "GC dry mouth gel", which helps a bit. I have it next to my bed, together with a lip stick (and all my other stuff: essential oils, eye mask, ear plugs, arnica cream, Schuessler 4 cream, hankies and now in the summer a small piezo electric device for the tiny itchy insect bites which are so maddening, one on each limb, at least one new one every day). It's quite a bit better now (mine increased last year due to amitriptyline, which I stopped after 4 months), but tonight for instance I tried opening my mouth and it was so stuck together that I had to cry out. Spose I shdve tried getting the saliva going first before doing so, but it's been ages since that happened.

Hi there. Whenever you have functional issues with bending, pulling, pushing, twisting, it might good idea to check that out with different doctors to be on the safe side. If your pain is exactly the same on both sides, and it is new pain not related to your fibromyalgia, then it is related to how you are doing activities at work. Maybe ask your primary doctor to send you to physical therapy to review how to lift, push, pull, carry, and lift and twist while carrying. If however, the pain is significantly worse on one side than the other, is new, its keeping you up at night, you are losing your grip in one hand, or you are having changing sensations in that arm - then you need to see a specialist because you might have a pinched nerve or a herniated disc in your back or neck that might require some intervention. Another clue it might be something serious is if it hurts worse than your normal fibromyalgia pain and you don't even recognize that you have fibromyalgia pain at the moment.

My left hand started to get weaker on me, and my left arm was killing me for months before I went to ask for help. It turned out I have a herniated c6/7 disc and in my chest where I was having rib and back pain, I have a T2/3 herniation. I tried to put off surgery, and just do physical and water therapies, but I have no choice I need the surgery to take the pressure off of my nerves.

These herniations are a result of an L5-S1 fusion I had in my low back over 15 years ago. Unfortunately, when your spine begins to deteriorate and you have fusions, your spine begins to rebel, and other herniations will happen. That is how I know the difference between fibromyalgia pain and non-fibro pain issues and when one should try therapy.

Good luck! I hope all you need is therapy!
