I need help in dealing with the extreme pain, won't take any opeoids I'm allergic to most. Have a good rumatoligest MD. We are at our wits end to help me. Thanks

Hello @GabrielleDSC , and welcome to the forum.

I don't know if anything is really "normal" when it comes to fibromyalgia, since it seems that it manifests differently in each individual. I know that fibro is not considered to be a degenerative condition. But, the thing is that we all, if we don't die first, get older. And almost everyone finds that they have some physical pain when they get older, have some physical limitations, injuries hurts more and take longer to heal. If you have fibromyalgia, that will make the physical pain or problems that everyone has when they get older manifest in much larger and more painful ways.

Pain medication is famously inadequate for managing fibromyalgia. some people do find relief with certain medications, though, so if you and your doctor set about to experiment with some medications you may find something that helps. I hope you do.

In the meantime, I always suggest to people that they experiment in other areas of their lives as well, to see if some other things might help. Exercise, getting outside, a hobby, eating a very healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and making sure that you pace yourself and don't overdo activities are all ways that we can manage this condition. And one of the most important things is to manage stress, and keep it as low as possible.
