Day 19

Reason:
Now what does that mean? Well most times when we are on a forum and our wording or link additions get deleted we never know why. It is just gone and we don't understand and sometimes we are just plain mad. That is the reason for this special blog post.
The answer lies in safety first. Sitting in my spare bedroom is my best computer. It is sitting there until I get enough money saved to get it repaired. The repair comes from the clicking on a link in a forum that sounded very interesting and had information I wanted to know about. After all it was on a forum that I had been a member of for a long time and so it must be safe, to go ahead and click that link.
The link looked safe. It was a simple one word with com after it. It was suppose to go to a website containing health information. However, this link did not go where it was intended. The link redirected and my browser produced an error message telling me that the website did not even exist or could not be found. Though disappointed I figured it had just been a mistake, so I then closed the page and returned to the forum.
What I did not realize at that time was that link contained a virus that ruined my computer. It will no longer boot up properly and will cost me a lot of money for the repairs, a computer expert has informed me. My virus protection program did not stop the redirect in time.
Often times we are told do not click a email we get if we are not sure where it came from. Some are easy to spot like people we don't know or places we don't even have an account with, but others look safe. They look like they are from a friend or place we have visited. We think we are safe with the programs we buy to protect our computers. We forget to be careful. And off we go exploring. Sometimes we are lucky and the link does go where it is intended, but then there is that one time, all it takes is one bad link and our fun way of staying in touch with others, becomes worthless. I learned the hard way.
That is why we encourage everyone here to do their own web searches and not to add links that go to other websites. It is not to be mean, as we know most all of you are only trying to be helpful.
If the information is something worth hearing about we would love to hear your opinions on it, as something we can all talk about.
So Reason #1 is safety. Reason #2, is forums as a general rule do not allow free advertizing no matter how good a product is.
I hope this helps all of you understand this forum rule. When members work together it is possible to keep the forum growing and safe for all. I will do my best and hope that with your help this forum will be a special comforting place for all who come here to enjoy. :)
