Hello. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm so glad to have found this site after a couple of years of battling this on my own. My journey has been long and hard. Doctors used to think I was imagining the symptoms and called me a hypochondriac for years. Finally I found a specialist who had studied a bit about fibromyalgia and knew the symptoms. Unfortunately his opinion is that medication does not help symptoms at all so that's not an option for me at the moment.

Honestly I'm feeling so drained. Even though i dont have a job and dont do anything but keep my home. I don't know where I'll find the energy to keep going, even though I'm taking it hour by hour rather than day by day. I don't really have anyone to talk to about this aspect of my life. I'm still so profoundly angry that this is a lifelong disease I have to live with. I'm sad about the current state of my life and anxious about my future.

I had to have a surgery about a week ago and recovery is a lot slower than the doctors thought it would be. Which is probably why I've been experiencing more pain,, fatigue and sleepless nights. I'm so glad I found this place. It gives me hope

Hi and Welcome Maaike. Glad you found this site to help you...there is a wealth of information and support on here.

I'm very glad you found an honest doctor, they are actually a rare commodity these days. The fibro drugs don't work for everyone, and sometimes the side effects are worse than the symptoms. There are many causes of fibro. I make the analogy of it being like headaches. You can have headaches from something as benign as being hungry, or you could have them from a malignancy such as brain tumor. So if you put all the symptoms of fibro together, it is much the same way. The goal is to find the reason for the complete set of fibro symptoms...easier said than done. Sometimes it does boil down to just the nervous system, and ultimately drugs may help; for me I consider them a last resort.

It's possible that whatever anesthesia you had could have exacerbated your symptoms, or if you were put on pain meds pre-post surgery.

If you are able, seeing a naturopath doctor may be of help, if this specialist doesn't. In the meantime, if you are not on any medications, it is worth looking through the alternative therapies section, and use the search bar for "fatigue" and you can see what other people have found helpful.

Again, glad to have you here and hope you will contribute as you learn more from your doctors/experience.

So sorry you feel so drained and had to have surgery! I also feel drained today. Yes I am at home too and keeping my house clean and neat is hard for me. I have pets and they help but can be a big responsibility as well. Glad you are here!
