So, I've been reading a variety of things about diet and Chronic Fatigue. One thing I've been reading a lot about is the correlation between nuts and Chronic Fatigue. I've read that limiting your intake of nuts actually helps you with Chronic Fatigue symptoms. I have not tried this so I cannot say whether or not it's worked for me.

I love almonds, peanuts, walnuts--basically any kind of nut. I eat them all the time and now I'm wondering if I should lay off for awhile to see what happens.

Has anyone else heard of this? Do you limit your intake? What were your results?

Actually, the nut that you should really be into is the Brazil nut. The Brazil nut. Why? Because that nut is loaded with Selenium. If you suffer from Fatigue, you need selenium. What I suggest, is that you blend your nuts into a drink. It can be done. I did that for a long time. I took soy milk, and my nuts, heavy on the brazil nuts and walnuts especially, and blended them in a blender with soy milk. sometimes I'd add banana for taste. It did pump me up. For an article do a web search for myhealingkitchen.

I don't know actually. Cashews certainly help increase my nerve sensitivity (My fingers otherwise feel mostly numb) and I think they are helping me. It's probably due to a vitamin deficiency being addressed rather than the nuts themselves though.

I have been eating more almonds, walnuts and peanuts over the past 2 years and my symptoms of fatigue seem to be less, now that I think about it. I have usually stayed away from nuts in the past, but my husband of 2 years loves nuts so we eat them more. So my experience is that they help me with fatigue and fibro. Not sure if each person is different or not. I think a few nuts per day are good. Maybe just don't eat too many. Maybe eat less and see if you feel better. If there is no difference then don't cut down.

It's so weird that I there's some suggested correlation! I was always taught that nuts were supposed to give you energy! Since I'm diabetic, I eat a lot of nuts for snacks and just to fill up or if I my blood sugar starts going low. I am interested in finding out if nuts can worsen CFS symptoms, but part of me kind of thinks it's bunk. I guess it couldn't hurt to try an experiment and see! I'll let you guys know if I decide to do it and what happens :)

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it was a thread about 'being nuts' :) But I actually love nuts and have been eating them regularly for years (mostly for breakfast and as an afternoon snack) Can't say I feel any better. They are rich in iron and other nutrients so they should aid to a having a healthy body.

Hahaha! Oh those crazy CFSers. Just kidding! I've always thought of nuts as very healthy. I enjoy them and they help keep blood sugar in check. I also find that they help lower cravings for sweets. Recently, I actually switched to almond milk and I really enjoy it. I try not to drink too much of it though. Almonds are one of my favorite snacks ever! They're just so good and satisfyingly crunchy :)

I can't agree about nuts causing fatigue, because my fatigue has become less and I drink lots of almond milk and eat tons of walnuts, pepitas, pine nuts, and sun flower seeds. That said, my nutritionist/ naturopath won't let me eat peanuts because they are moldy, or any other nut I didn't mention because they are too sugary. Sugar in any form will increase fatigue.

Awesome! That's really good to know! I'm actually not that into nuts, but fatigue is one of my worst symptoms right now. I guess I will need to get some Brazilian nuts and see how it works. It would be great to lose the weight I have gained in the last few weeks.

By the way... I loved the smoothie recipe :) I will definitely try it! I love bananas and soy milk! Yummy!

Hmmm Brazilian nuts. I'm going to try that! That smoothie sounds great! I wish I could have soy milk (thyroid disease, can't use soy), but I'm sure I could replace it with something! I love smoothies! I wonder if I could replace the soy milk with Greek yogurt. Oh man does that sound good. Thanks for the Brazilian nuts suggestion! :)

Apike, how about the Greek yogurt, or almond milk? I think there are other types of non soy, non dairy milk products. Coconut milk?

I've never tried coconut milk but my sister swears by it. It's something I may have to add to my shopping list! I love, love, love almond milk and I've had success with Greek yogurt smoothies but I'm always looking for more options. Coconut milk may just be a new option for me! There is a new lactose-free milk I've seen at the store but I have no idea how it tastes. I'm willing to try it just to see if it's any good. My husband is lactose intolerant when it comes to drinking milk so I'm always on the lookout for things he might be able to drink, too. :)

Coconut milk is kinda nondescript. My son, who is in to healthy eating, drinks it regularly. I've tasted it plain. It would be really easy to add ingredients to have a yummy smoothie. I need to get organized and make them. I eat a lot of frozen blueberries and/or raw almonds when I'm awake at night. I get frustrated with insomnia so like to nibble on something. It seems to give me something to do while I'm reading, and my tummy doesn't grumble quite as much during the night. Good luck! Give feedback if you try it!

I absolutely love coconut milk and oil. Oil is actually very good for whitening your teeth! It is very beneficial and I'm glad that society and the media are catching on to its benefits in the mainstream.

Thanks! I'm going to the store tomorrow so I'll be picking up some stuff for smoothies. Including coconut milk! It's starting to get hot here and I really hate eating anything heated in the mornings when it's hot so a smoothie would be a great way to get the day going for me. I'll let everyone know how it turns out!

I didn't know coconut oil whitened teeth! Here I am whitening my teeth with whitening strips. Thanks for the suggestion!
