Hi guys

I’ve just had my diagnosis and I’m really struggling with the bad sleep, achiness and migraines in particular. I work full time in an office based job but I don’t know if I need time off whilst I get used to it all? I’m needing frequent sick time right now!

Thank you x

Hi @Jadejones2212 and welcome to the forum.
I don't think anyone can advise you on whether to take time off, take sick days, or how to handle that particular aspect of this because there are so many variables in terms of your job that it's impossible for someone else to know what is best for you.

Many of us, including myself, have worked at full time jobs for years while managing fibromyalgia. It's not always easy, to be sure. But it can be done. My work was very demanding both physically and mentally/emotionally, and required that I deal effectively with people who were not at their best. It was very challenging, but I did it because I had to pay the bills, and some of the time the work provided a distraction from my own pain and problems.

Learning to manage fibromyalgia is something that usually takes people quite some time. It's not like you can take a month off, learn how to manage things well, and then go back to work full time and all is well. Most people find that learning how to manage fibromyalgia is a long process, and just when you think you have it figured out and know what works well for you, things may change and you have to start experimenting all over again. I am not wanting to discourage you! But it's best if you know these things from the outset.

Having said that, I want you also to know there are a lot of things you can do to help yourself, to feel better, to improve your health overall, and all of that can help you to manage fibro better. Unfortunately, no one can tell you what will work, because what works for one person does not necessarily work for the next person, and the only way to find out is to try things.

I recommend you read this post, and start trying whatever seems do-able to you. And feel free to ask us questions, to relay your experiences, and just to vent or complain if that is what you are feeling, because that is what this forum is for. We are all here because we want to help each other.
