hi there,

i have been diagnosed with fibro for over a year now and that too after many years of pain and suffering. I had a rheumy who diagnosed me with it but has let go of me by passing me on to a psychiatrist and my GP. My GP is pretty good and helpful but he thinks that i should be seeing a specialist. I agree too because my GP does not want to increase me meds and dosage.

I desperately need a really good Dr. who specializes in fibro and understands our condition and the need of meds. I currently take 900mg of gabapentin, toradol for migraines, tylenol arthritis when needed and nortriptyline 175mg. i have been in a flare for almost a month now and my dr is not increasing my dose :-?

Anyone here have experience with a good rheumy in Pickering, Ajax and Scarborough area?

thanks for the help. soft hugs!

try calling your local hospital and ask for a case worker. they have a referral program at all hospitals. good luck. you may need a neurologist instead.
call the doctors office and ask right up front what his/she stand is on fibro and nerve pain. dont spend money on worthless doctors. do your research and make informed decisions about what doctor to use.

Keep us posted on when and who you find. Make sure it is someone who wants to help and not be all about pushing meds. I'm currently looking for a different specialist because I feel like a number and not a patient, I started with this rheumatologist, because my mother goes to him for her fibro. Not to take this in a whole different direction, but I'm currently being weaned off of nortriptyline for side effects and it is hard to find anyone on here that is also on this medication I was wondering if you have any of the following symptoms: hair loss and thinning, brittle thinning nails, new onset of depression, hand and body trembling, joints locking in place momentarily with pain and stiffness afterwards, headaches that last for days, new onset of anxiety. I'm currently down to 20mg and most of these symptoms are gone, but of course the downside to coming off this medication is that the pain, and fatigue are coming back with a vengeance. All my thyroid levels came back normal and I am on 10,000mg of biotin a day and my hair and nails are still thin and breaking easily. I keep hoping the biotin will kick in and resolve this issue, but I've been on it since the end of March. Any feedback on side effects to this medication would be helpful, thank you. My heart and prayers got out to you in your time of need, keep looking and stay informed.
