Hi, I have just joined this site, because I am convinced that I could have fibromyalgia. I have zero energy, and my sleep is awful, due to me having sleep apnea. I do have a night time mask, which in all honesty does not make me feel great at all.

In the last 3 months, I have felt dreadful, and at times my body feels like it just aches all over. I have always loved walking, but now my back hurt's so much with a low back pain. I really don't know if it could be fibromyalgia ? or something is drastically wrong with me. I am also a huge anxiety sufferer.

Thanks for listening.

Hi @Tyke Sammy 2 and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry you have been experiencing such trouble lately, and hope that you can start to feel better.

the first thing you need to do is go to your doctor and talk with them about all the problems you are having. I recommend that you do not jump to any conclusions about what you may have, especially fibromyalgia, until you have been examined, talked to the doctor, and gotten tested for all of the various and many things that could be causing these symptoms.

Low thyroid, Lyme disease, MS, ME, diabetes, depression, and many other disorders too numerous to list here all have symptoms that are similar or identical to fibromyalgia, and without eliminating all of those that can be tested for, you will not have any idea what is going on. And most of the other things have effective treatment or even cures!

Generally, fibromyalgia is not diagnosed unless there is significant widespread pain both upper and lower body, and on both sides of the body, that has persisted for more than 6 months along with other symptoms.

The things you are describing could possibly all be the result of your lack of sleep, because that in itself can make a body and mind break down pretty fast, and you couple that with anxiety and it's pretty awful. I know how this feels because I also struggle to get enough sleep and have chronic anxiety and it's very, very hard to deal with that. I suggest you might want to talk with the doctor about medication for anxiety and also to help you sleep, as a starting point, to see if things might improve from that while you are waiting to get the tests all done.

Whatever the outcome or you decide to do, you are welcome here and we are all here to try to help each other. So ask any questions you may have, and read what people here are experiencing.....it can be good just to know you are not alone.
I am wishing you the best of luck.

Hi sunkacola, many thanks for your reply, and I get where you are coming from totally. As I have suffered from anxiety/ depression for many many years, I also have high blood pressure, and sadly I am intolerant, and have been diagnosed as intolerant to BP medication's, which you can imagine has not improved my anxieties. So yes it could be something other than FM. But sometimes it just feels like I am getting some awful flu virus or something, where I just ache and at times I truly feel like I am dying.

Thank you so much for welcoming me, and I will let you know what develops. x

I recommend that you write down all of your symptoms so that when you go to the doctor you won't run any risk of forgetting one. Also, I have learned from other people's experience and my own that many doctors do not respond well if you attempt to tell them that you suspect fibromyalgia. They want to be the ones who are in the know, and might even decide you are malingering if you mention it. And, there are still doctors who will take a dim view of mentions of fibromyalgia, because they don't believe it's real. Fortunately, those doctors are becoming fewer and farther between as more is known, but better safe than sorry. And if they know you have a history of anxiety they may label you as a hypochondriac. It's utterly wrong and unjust, but this is a reality. Just talk about the symptoms and ask to be tested and take it from there.
Wishing you the best of luck, and do keep us informed.
