Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried using the Hummingbird Fibromyalgia Device from Vital Motion. If so, please share your experience-negative or positive. I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was looking for any extra help I can get, but the price is pretty steep for something that is not guaranteed to help. I've already made changes to my diet, quit smoking, and am taking Cymbalta. I just haven't been able to find the energy to add an exercise regimen. The brain fog, fatigue, stomach issues, and bruises make life difficult, but I'm grateful to finally have a diagnosis. Looking forward to any responses! Thanks.

I tried to find impartial reviews for this device online but couldn't find any.
I would say it is only worth a try if you can return it if it doesn't work for you, because it probably won't work for everyone.

Let us know, if you do get it, and if it helps or not, because we will all want to know!

Exercise-----I understand. That's how I felt a few years ago. But I found that you can start very, very small and work up very slowly, and get to the point that you can do enough exercise that it will help you -- and exercise helps everyone. It's the one thing that will definitely help everyone.

Now, you have to find the right kind of exercise, what works for you, what level, and it is very preferable that it be something you enjoy. Exercise doesn't have to be a pain in the bottom. It doesn't even have to be something that feels like Exercise. It doesn't have to be in a gym or aerobics every day or any one thing. It can be just taking a nice long walk every day. Take the dog, if you have one. If you don't, maybe borrow the neighbor's dog! Lifting light weights. Doing yoga. Going for a short swim.
So many things, and everyone can find something that will work for them.
And, the real beauty of it is that if you find the right thing to do, it will give you energy rather than taking it, and will also lift your spirits. :)

It sounds to me as if you are trying very hard to do the right things for yourself, and I applaud you for that! You are on the right track, and I am here to support you in this. Read the post that is pinned at the top of the General forum for my tips on managing fibro. Maybe something there will help as well.
hang in there, you will be able to find your own best way to manage this.

Thanks! I read your post yesterday...very helpful advice! I also agree with a commenter who stated that the forums and support groups really help as well. I don't know anyone personally with FM, so it is hard to have conversations with friends who don't understand how this feels.

I purchased a bungee cord/rope resistance belt system to start doing yoga, as well as other low-impact exercises, and was excited starting that-I just need to muster up the energy to install it!

I'll let you know how the Hummingbird device works! Thank you for the response and kind words!

Just checked out the device. Looks like it might help. They do offer a try before you buy but its a little expensive four hundred plus. Not sure but it seems like it works like tens unit? Anyone else know how I works?

It looks a little different from a TENS, although it is very hard to tell from what they say, and it does seem that it would work in much the same fashion.........
But, if is essentially the same thing as a TENS.......you can get a TENS for $50.

Guess there's no way to know unless someone tries it out and lets us know. And even then........ it won't work the same for everyone.
I think I'll pass on it myself, but would really like to hear a report if anyone on the forum gets one!

I use a tens machine on/off and can confirm good results . I just bought a basic model about 4-5 yea ago that was on sale in the hospital pharmacy. Since then I’ve bought a few from Amazon at approx 30£ - they don’t remove the pain but they really do create some kind of diversion so that it’s as if it’s not there. I’m going to look this new one up. The beauty of the basic tens is you can attach the pads that are v cheap to buy on their own generic ones fit most models and you can place them in specific areas and also there are so many YouTube videos with physios explaining placements etc
All the best !

The functional doctors had me use a rebuilder (like a tens but different frequency) which does work on my neuropathy but also expensive. Sometimes you can find a used one if you're lucky. I've used a tens since my knee surgery 40 years ago and they have gotten affordable. But don't overuse your tens or you can cause nerve damage.
(((gentle hugs)))

Considering the price and if that's not been tried yet, I'd try the TENS unit... (however not if you have seizures, like me.)
If you want to use your money more sensibly, there's many supps & herbs to try and put it into first which have better feedback than this... Physical therapies too, but you seem to be needing quick things for starters... ;-)
Exercise etc.: To start habits up on new things I start with "one minute". And eventually count how many minutes I do them (and put that on my blog...) In the past 6 weeks I've managed to do the "7 minute scientific workout" every day (since starting GABA I have the energy). Sometimes only 4 minutes... Keeping track has showed me that I am actually doing something like 30-100 mins of self-treatments a day, not all at once - here a minute, there a minute, adds up....
