hi im khaos, im 20 and i was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. my dad also has it and we have similar symptoms.

my main worry is getting worse as i get older. im young and should be full of energy but im not. i survive on caffeine and 5-6 hours of sleep.

im now going into my second year of university. there is a practical element to it which i have struggled with, but i just hope i can get through it.

Atleast with your dad having FM you both will have a true understanding what you’re going through and can support each other.

5/6 hours seem good, I was lucky to get 2/3 before I got onto MM oil.

It’s so good to hear your still managing your uni, not an easy feat while in chronic pain. Well done, good luck and try to keep focus on your study . Be easy on yourself.

Hello and welcome.
fibromyalgia is not a progressive thing in and of itself. But it's true that as we age, our bodies become less able to do things and are more likely to develop problems, and if we already have a chronic condition it can be exacerbated by age. Since you are only 20, I would encourage you not to worry about the future and instead just take the days and years as they come because worry is stress and any kind of stress is going to make your fibro symptoms worse....guaranteed.

It's hard not to worry, in your place, I know. But try to focus your intentions and energy and mind on what things you might be able to do now to mitigate and manage the symptoms that you have today, in this moment, instead of being scared for the future.

Who knows...you are so young that maybe before you reach middle age there will be a proven treatment or even a cure. If you think of the future...maybe it would help to think about that possibility instead?

Meantime, we are here to help and to offer advice when asked for and to support each other.
