Hand Swelling PAIN WORSE AND WORSE
Submitted by Quando62 on Thu, 04/16/2015 - 09:04
I have problems with swelling a lot but sometimes quite severe. I will swell in my feet, ankles, legs, hands and wrists. The swelling will get bad enough that I have stage 1 pitting. When i have this swelling I becomes so stiff i can barely walk. My fingers I will not be able to close into a fist or even bend them most of the way.
I have to use my hands with my work as a musician and am slowly loosing the ability to play as well as make fiber optic cables to work
ANYBODY find this to be crippling as I do???
I take tramadol, Liopic Acid, Neurontin, and tried everything to no avail.
What, if anything is helping those with this??? I'm at my end's wits!!!!
:pinch:

So sorry to hear about your condition. My issues are more with my leg and knee pain. Some days I can hardly walk. I am tall and in decent shape so weight isn't an issue. Also like you my hands swell and I get tremors now and then. I tried tram afoul and did nothing so now I am on Norco, gagapentin, cymbalta along with amitriplene. So all that helps but not my hands and legs. So my Rhemotologist prescribed a lotion to put on three times a day or as needed. It is called Pennsaid and seems to help. Don't read the side effects because they are totally crazy stuff. It's been several weeks and no side effect yet. Guess the doctor thought it might be a combination of Fibro and Burcitis. Have to excuse my typing, some days hard to type and auto-correct sometimes changes thing.
You said that you were a musician and possibly the use of your hands over time has impacted a condition.
My Dad had hand swelling and they did blood work and said it was Gout so he takes meds to get his hands to where they are somewhat normal.

I have FM, severe central stenosis in my back and neck, nerve trauma from a gall bladder surgery-waiting for possible lupus or RA diagnosis-hard to see a rheumatologist. I Also have Hashimotos thyroiditis. Currently on Gabapentin, tapentadol, Cyclobenzaprine, Tylenol, synthroid, plus supplements. I too get finger and toe swelling-symmetrical-with severe pain. Had to leave work today at lunch due to nerve pain. I am a high school teacher-need my hands and feet to work. I have not found anything to help much yet. I also get stiffness that lasts for hours. You'd think I was much older than my 44 years if you saw me walk, especially in the mornings.

Sorry, forget to mention that sometimes I do get a little relief from a topical cream from my health food store that contains menthol and camphor. Hopefully I'm allowed to name it here? It's from Earths Care and is their triple action Pain Relieving Ointment. It wouldn't be good around instruments though but sometimes helps me be able to stay at work. It smells like wintergreen so my students don't mind it. Please let me know if you find anything that works.
